What else do I do in Parliament?
I am a member of the International Development Select Committee, which overseas and scrutinises the work of the Department for International Development. We are also interested in the international agencies and non governmental organisations that the department works with. You can find out more about my work in the Committee, or access the Committee's reports and enquiries here.
I chair the All Party Parliamentary Group on Africa, which is a group of MPs and Peers who are interested in Africa and its development. You can find out more about the Group's work here.
I am also a member of the Chairman's Panel, which is a Committee of MPs who chair debates in Westminster Hall and Public Bill Committees - Committees of MPs from all parties which scrutinise legislation proposed by the Government in detail. I recently chaired the Committee of the Education and Skills Bill, which introduced a duty on young people in England to stay in education or training until the age of 18.
My history as MP for York
